“Lazy Days of Summer 1962″ (S&D Line Norton Hill Station)
Approaching the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Somerset and Dorset Railway I felt it fitting to do this painting.
The S&D, as it was known, was created in 1862 when two railways – Somerset Central Railway and Dorset Central Railway – merged to create a coast to coast line from Burnham-on-Sea to
Poole. At its height, the line linked places like Bridgwater, Burnham, Wells, Bath and Glastonbury.
This summer scene depicts a Locomotive, Engine No. 53809 with a train for Bournemouth passing Midsomer Norton South Station in the summer of 1962.
