After much controversy about the date of when the thatched cottages were in Welton! Roger decided to not include an actual date! But knows it was prior to 1959
as thats when this old station burned down).
With the help of old photo’s loaned to him by his friend Tony (Dapper) Day, Roger has depicted life in Welton as he remembers it in By-Gone days, Tony later became known as the Duck Man as he
has always looked after the ducks in Welton. He and his friend Colin (Shem) Emery are included in the picture with the ducks albeit this is a bit of artist license !
Another well known character is also included (Charlie Fry) he used to have a small farm at Combers Grave, near to Orchard Ave, where the artist has always lived. Roger has such fond memories of him that he felt he must include Charlie with his cows in the painting.
The background shows a British Standard Class locomotive and passenger train just arriving at the Old GWR Midsomer Norton & Welton Station.
